Have I Got a Deal For You

Copyright 2006.

Written for an Advent Story project I'm working on. This is from the perspective of the Innkeeper, who had no room in his inn for the Savior and His family.

Now, the Innkeeper usually gets short shrift concerning this, but it was probably extremely crowded there, and there is no guarantee that Jesus, Mary, and Joseph were alone in the barn with the animals. There may have been a host of people packed in there, but the truth is that we just don't know.

Still, there's no doubt that he was making a killing there with the crowds needing a place to stay, and it's probable that he charged for the right to use his barn.

Lyrics

Verse 1:
What a night this is, I just can't believe
All the people wanting to pay me.
For a one-night stay at my inn today,
I've seen it all, just come and slay me!
My best friend, Augustus Ceasar said
"Go back to your homes so I can count your heads!"
All those people need a place to stay
So my buddy Augustus sent 'em my way
And I only charge 'em triple times
The price I normally do!
It's a roomy place with lots of space,
Have I got a deal for you!

Chorus:
Oh, Have I got a deal for you!
Have I got a deal for you!
I can see by your face you might be needing a place
To rest your weary head!
Oh have I got a deal for you!
I just might get a squeal out of you!
If you've got the cash, I have a place to crash!
Oh have I got a deal for you!

Verse 2:
What a pile I've made on this mad parade
Of travelers to my inn.
And my money bag is full of swag,
They must pay before they come in.
And my best friend, Augustus Caesar's face
Is showing up all over the place
On the brass, the silver, and the gold,
For they dearly pay to come in from the cold
And I only charge 'em triple times
The price I normally do!
It's a filthy job putting up with this mob,
Have I got a deal for you!

Chorus:

Verse 3:
Oh, this pregnant girl and her husband chump
They showed up at my door
And I sent 'em to stay in the stable out back
And I charged 'em like they stayed indoors!
But my best friend, Augustus Caesar's face
Doesn't help to cure my heart's disgrace
For I sent them to the stable to stay
With a newborn baby on the way
I'll pay them back in the morning's light
'Cause I know in my heart it's just not right
To treat those folks that way tonight
And put them in the barn for triple price!

Chorus:
